Thats exactly my problem, nothing works, or makes any sense at all, any ideas?
I'm new to this whole diabetes thing, and am having a lot of trouble with eating understanding all this confilicting stuff and what they tell me to do, and frankly keeping my blood sugar readings as I am supposed to or at least low enough. They sent me to a nutritionist at the diabetes place last week and I thought that if I followed the diet they told me my numbers would be ok. However, when I eat everything they tell me, I'm much higher than I was last week when I was just testing and just on my own avoiding sugar foods and keeping the over all carbs low. How can I get the numbers down, if I have to eat so much that they tell me to eat? The other thing is my overnight. They want me to have way lower figures then I ever have in the morning and before meals. No matter what I do that doesn't seem to be happening. It never seems to be happening so how am I to control before meals and high readings in the morning when I have not eaten a thing. They suggested I was to make sure that before going to bed I eat a bedtime snack. Seems to not affect morning readings one way or the other, going squirrelly on this whole thing. Any help here?

Reply : I have a similar issue. By sheer accident, my 8 year old pointed out Harlan's newspaper in a stand by a rest area on the 94 Highway between MN and WI. I am newly diagnosed (type II) as of April. There is a family history and I am overweight. I have a very traditional MD who put me on Lantis and Metformin straight away. Added statins too. Just to normalize things. I lost 32 pounds and started to bike. I need to be more regular on the exercise and it definitely helps keep down the numbers. I got sent by my MD to the local diabetes education. Very dumbed down. Lots of dairy and carbs and bread. They are very anti-Atkins or similar diets. I know I have to remove sugar and my other addiction to sweetener has to go as well. The medical establishment are very quick to push regular drugs. My findings in the last few months are to research yourself. Atkins has an amazing book on diabetes research which covers some very important information and knowledge u must arm yourself with on this journey. You are not alone, but research urself. Do not end up like the masses. As hard as it is to deal with, Harlan is spot on with so much, particularly diet. I know, even before my diagnosis, that the diet given to me by the diabetes "educators" is far worse in carb and sugar content to what i was eating before. As I asked my Dr. if you really think a low carb high protein diet is so bad for me then fine, but let me do it and let's see the results. I know my body and what works. All the carbs, bread and sugar free junk isn't going to work. We have to go back to basics. This is a terrible disease that is being ignored by the establishment. I also went to an alternative medicine doctor during my research. I am the last person to do such a thing, but like you, i want to know all my options. U are doing the right thing in questioning what u are being told. Experiment with food, start to do ur own research. Go to www.sugarfreesheila.com, atkins etc. and if u want to really make life easy and see a difference, just do harlans cave man diet......and turn that into a lifestyle....lots of luck!!

Reply : E's success is important to emulate. Not only because of the natural foods, but also because they are raw, preserving the enzymes that are esential for proper digestion and energy release. Reply : I to have only been diabetic for a little over a year. My doctore put me on metformin right off. It did nothing. My fasting sugars were still around 300. I had to change my diet and my lifestyle. Now I am off the metformin, I have lost 40 lbs and my fasting sugars are around 150. Not perfect yet but I don't exercise AT ALL.
